jumping on the sofaFlame retardants are known to trigger autism, neurological damage, cancer, endocrine disruption, and are known to be toxic to our immune systems.  In my earlier blog I outlined how dangerous these products are, which you can review here…

SafeMinds has blogged about how to buy a healthy couch. There entire article can be found here…

I include a few of the great tips that they have provided:

  • When buying new furniture, avoid foam cushions with the tag “Meets flammability requirements of California Bureau of Home Furnishings Technical Bulletin 117”.
  • Look for flame retardant-free foam: You can find it here…
  • Buy a couch manufactured in California (once the leader in mandating flame retardants they now have strong laws against their use).
  • Futons typically do not have flame retardants.
  • Replace old foam with the healthy flame retardant-free foam.
