ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) Available at Many Schools and Now at New Heights Physical Therapy

concussion-brainOnce you have had a concussion, it is sometimes hard to determine if your subtle findings are due to the concussion or were there anyway.  ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a widely used computerized neurocognitive testing program which tests attention, memory, reaction time, and information processing speed. A baseline test can be done before your child has a concussion. Baseline tests are used to assess subtle changes in cognitive function and can provide information that can be used to measure against a child’s post-injury condition and rate of recovery. The testing can then be repeated after a concussion and thus provides accurate information about the severity of the concussion and can guide treatment.  It is generally recommended that you get the pre-concussion testing done annually for ages 10-14 and at least every other year after that if your child is in a contact sport. Many schools provide this testing as part of their athletic program and many do not.
