CDC Wonders How to Remove Barriers to Vaccinate More Pregnant Women During Pregnancy- Might I Suggest Do the Safety Studies First?

Prego and Shot    The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) branch of the CDC has recommended vaccination of pregnant women with the Tdap (tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis) vaccine since February 22, 2013. This was done without any safety studies by vaccine manufacturers on the injection of this vaccine or even just the amount of aluminum contained in this vaccine to pregnant women. The influenza vaccine has been recommended for pregnant women since 2004. Likewise, it was never tested in pregnant women.

How does the CDC get to experiment on the US population, and our unborn children, without any ethics oversight or IRB (Institutional Review Board)?

I cannot imagine any ethics committee or IRB, approving such an experiment on unborn children without substantial animal studies showing long term safety of this intervention. You are basically taking a healthy pregnancy and injecting a huge dose of aluminum with the Tdap, along with the antigenic stimulation, without studying the long term effects. We know from lead toxicity studies that the effects of heavy metal poisoning can show up at school age and later. How can we allow the CDC to push this experiment on our pregnant moms and their unborn children?

The CDC is making a massive effort to encourage doctors to push this vaccine on unsuspecting pregnant moms. Will the Tdap in pregnancy reduce infant deaths? Yes.

There are 10-20 infant deaths a year in the USA out of about 4 million births a year due to pertussis. If this article, “Pertussis and Influenza Vaccination Among Insured Pregnant Women — Wisconsin, 2013–2014,” (which you can read here… ) can be believed, then this vaccine procedure may reduce those deaths by up to 90%. This would save 9 to 18 infants lives. That is a worthy cause, and it is on this basis that most are jumping on the idea that it is OK to experiment on our pregnant women and unborn children. I don’t blame any pregnant mom if they choose to take this vaccine given those statistics. Just be aware that you are absolutely poisoning your unborn child with a huge toxic dose of aluminum with the Tdap. Since there are no studies on the long term effects of this, your baby and child becomes the experiment. I doubt it will go well. Sadly, we will likely never know what the effects of this experiment were, since no one will be looking. Don’t you suppose now would be the time for the CDC to set up the long term studies, comparing a large group of pregnancies that don’t get the Tdap to those that do, and follow those children for 10 years?

In medicine, procedures like vaccines, or taking a medication, or doing a surgery, have risks and benefits. Sometimes the benefits get exaggerated, sometimes the risks get minimized. The process of informed consent is where the doctor recommending the procedure gives the patient the pros and cons and the alternatives. Are you getting informed consent when you are being told to do the Tdap or the flu shot while pregnant? If so, then I have no issue with this recommendation to inject toxins and vaccines during pregnancy. You are doing this with your eyes open, weighing the risks and the benefits.

For me and my children, I would choose to take the 1 in 400,000 chance of my child dying from pertussis and skip the unknown poison effect, the unknown effect of messing with the immune system of an unborn child. I would practice cocooning  where the family around the baby would all get the pertussis vaccine before the baby arrives and birth mom would get the Tdap right after delivery (and before getting pregnant if possible). This has been shown to reduce the risk of infants getting pertussis by as much as 50% making the risk of death close to 1 in a million. Contrast that with a guaranteed poisoning, and those are risks and benefits I can live with.

I call on the physicians in this country to demand safety testing – long term safety testing – before recommendations for universal vaccination of pregnant women and children. It is time we return to ethics in medicine, and adhere strictly to informed consent. In the absence of studies, we cannot give informed consent as there are no safety studies to inform us. We are left uninformed. We must first do not harm. We must use the precautionary principle and not give a substance that likely has toxicity until adequate safety studies are done. Vaccines cannot be treated the same as industrial chemicals, where chemicals seem to be assumed to be safe until proven otherwise. Just as with medications, we must know that our medicines and vaccines are safe before we make recommendations for mass use of these medicines and vaccines.
