Trans-Fats Are Out- FDA Rules Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil No Longer Safe

Transfat    In the statement, “The FDA takes step to remove artificial trans fats in processed foods,” they state, “based on a thorough review of the scientific evidence, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration today finalized its determination that partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs), the primary dietary source of artificial trans fat in processed foods, are not “generally recognized as safe” or GRAS, for use in human food. Food manufacturers will have three years to remove PHOs from products.” (You can read that here… )

It is sad that it has taken decades to get to this point. My parents’ generation was bombarded with ads on the false benefits of margarine (partially hydrogenated trans-fat). Our processed foods (almost anything in a package or box that has fat in it) is loaded with these health destroying trans-fats. You will probably still find doctors today, encouraging you to use margarine instead of butter- WRONG! Of course, using extra virgin olive oil, avocado, or coconut oil, or flax seed oil would be preferable to the saturated fats in butter, but margarine and partially hydrogenated oils absolutely need to be banned!

Here is yet another example where we have had it all wrong for far too long. The FDA needs to get busy and remove the GRAS status of aspartame (Splenda and Nutrasweet) found in most chewing gum and many artificially sweetened foods from gum to medications.  We will certainly eventually look back on the use of aluminum (a known neurotoxin) in vaccines and wonder how we could have allowed that for so many decades!

If our agencies that are supposed to protect us can fail for decades as they have with partially hydrogenated oils (I’m glad they got it right now) you need to know that it is up to you, not your government or even your doctor, to be informed on what you put in your body.
