Do Your Prescriptions Deplete Your Nutrients?

prescriptionDrugs, medications, and prescriptions may be robbing you of essential nutrients. I hope every living person who lives away from the equator, who rarely gets sun exposure (we mostly are indoors and wearing clothes) is taking a vitamin D supplement.  I have tested hundreds of children with results that are down right scary.  Most children in Oregon have vitamin D levels below 20 and about 30% have levels in the single digits.  Note that normal is considered 30 – 100 but I prefer a goal of 50 – 80.  I usually worry about the nutrient status of my patients when parents bring in their child for conditions like autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, etc. I will often draw a micro nutrient testing analysis of the nutrients in the WBC’s (white blood cells) as a glimpse of what the nutrient status might be inside the cells of the brain and body.

Did you know that antacids and ulcer medications lower your child’s Vit D, B12, folic acid, calcium, iron, and zinc?

Did you now that antibiotics lower B vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc?

These deficiencies can affect brain function and your immune system!

The table in the link below is a good summary of some of the nutrients that can become depleted by certain medications. http://www.spectracell.com/media/document-306-prescription-depletions.pdf
