Lead In Imported Rice

riceI wrote earlier this past year about arsenic in rice and that imported rice may have lower arsenic levels based on consumer reports studies.  See my blog: http://www.integrativepediatricsonline.com/blog/2013/01/09/arsenic-a-very-bad-toxin/

The levels of lead ranged from six milligrams per kilogram to 12 milligrams per kilogram, which added up to about 30 to 60 times greater than the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) provisional total tolerable intake (PTTI) levels for children and 20-40 times greater than the standard exposure levels for adults.

Sadly, I guess the message for now is moderation.  I would still avoid rice cereal in early infants and choose organic fruits and vegetables as a better first food.
